Section 1.1 Introducing Psychology
Psychology is an exciting and in-depth study into the human mind and body. We define Psychology as, “the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes.” This is a field that looks at all aspects of the human existence from a scientific viewpoint. Psychology should not be confused with other “Pseudopsychologies (aka Para psychologies)”, like psychics and astrologers. Those types of pseudopsychologies look at supernatural forces or the stars for answers, rather than strong scientific evidence. Psychologists are concerned with four major goals; description, prediction, explanation, and changes in our behaviour and mental processes. Through different specialties in Psychology we attempt to find answers or new possibilities to some of our many questions.
