Chapter 7 Overview

Chapter Overview:

Do you remember what you had for breakfast today? How about what you had for dinner last Wednesday? Think back to your first kiss or first dance? Go back to grade kindergarten, can you remember everyone in your class, how about their names? For some of you, some of these questions were easy, while others either were more difficult or simply “impossible to answer”. If you couldn’t remember what you ate last Wednesday for dinner, it doesn’t mean that you are losing your memory, instead it is natural and common amongst most people. This chapter explores the concept of memory. You’ll learn how our memory works, how it can be improved, as well as what can cause it to be distorted or simply forgetful. Applying the concepts you learn in this chapter to your everyday school work will not only allow you to succeed in this course, but in all your classes.

The chapter is divided into 4 sections:

  1. The Nature of Memory
  2. Forgetting
  3. Biological Bases of Memory
  4. Using Psychology to Improve Our Memory
