Chapter 13 Overview
Chapter Overview:
Before you read ahead, take a minute and try to describe your personality? How did you describe yourself? Did you use words like hard-working, trusting, passive, or even-tempered? If so, then you used terms that are common amongst many psychologists. Understanding a person’s personality can offer a psychologist important information about their tendencies, habits, likes and dislikes, etc. In this chapter you will learn about the major theories of personality and how they describe, explain, and predict our behaviours and actions. At the end of the chapter, we’ll go through the major personality assessment tools that help psychologists further understand human behaviour and mental processes.
The chapter is divided into 6 sections:
- Trait Theories
- Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic Theories
- Humanistic Theories
- Social-Cognitive Theories
- Biological Theories
- Personality Assessment
