Chapter Overview:

Have you ever stopped to think of the following statistics?

  • 1 out of 100 people are considered to have anti-social personality disorder
  • 1 out of 100 people suffer from schizophrenia
  • Famous people like Howard Hughes and Howie Mandel suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • The most common phobia (fear) is public speaking

 

The following statistics reveal some interesting tidbits. First, no one is immune to possibly suffering from a psychological disorder. Secondly, there are enough people in Vancouver who either suffer from schizophrenia or have anti-social personality disorder to fill GM Place (where the Canucks play)!

This chapter explores some of the most common and well known psychological disorders. You will explore popular myths, while also learning how psychologists diagnose and treat these disorders.
